INTRODUCTION: ETHICS, MAN AND SOCIETY
Man is the center of the earth and the whole of creation. As a consequence, the materials he uses, invents, constructs, and creates – are influenced by his society, his culture, his beliefs, his relationships, his lifestyle, his hopes and dreams. Ultimately, these multiple facets of his life-journey relate to ethics and ethical convictions, both innate and acquired. Understandably, man’s ethics swings between what is deemed the past, and what is consensually considered contemporary. Ethical norms do not only differ, they evolve.
Change and evolution of ethics and its principles make or unmake the internal value system of man. We are the kind of man because we embrace the kind of ethics. They impact man’s environment, genomics, his bioethical standards, information technology, nanotechnology, warfare and his preoccupations on disarmament. His fundamental integrity regarding research and advancement of science and technology roots the emerging society we are going to have.
This conference highlights views on the ethical concerns and implications of prominent frontiers in science and technology, as these find application in the various spheres of human society.
